Shimla Manali Itinerary: A Perfect 6 to 7 Day Plan

The Shimla and Manali circuit is the classic first Himachal trip. Here is a well-paced Shimla Manali itinerary over 6 to 7 days.

Day 1: Arrive Shimla

Reach Shimla, ideally on the UNESCO-listed Kalka-Shimla toy train. Walk the Ridge and Mall Road, visit Christ Church, and climb to Jakhu Hill for the temple and views.

Day 2: Kufri and Shimla

Day trip to Kufri for valley views, horse rides and, in winter, snow. Back in Shimla, explore the markets and colonial architecture.

Day 3: Shimla to Manali

Scenic drive to Manali (about 7 hours), following the Sutlej and Beas rivers, with stops at Sundernagar lake and the Pandoh dam.

Day 4: Manali Local

Visit the ancient Hidimba Devi Temple in its cedar forest, the Vashisht hot springs, the Manu temple and the cafe-lined lanes of Old Manali.

Day 5: Solang Valley and Atal Tunnel

Spend the day at Solang Valley for paragliding, the ropeway and snow play, then drive through the Atal Tunnel to snowy Sissu in Lahaul. (When open, Rohtang Pass is an alternative, permit required.)

Day 6: Manali to Departure

Drive down to Kullu for a stop at the shawl factories and the Naggar Castle, then continue to your exit point, or fly out of Bhuntar.
