Best Time to Visit Kashmir: A Season-by-Season Guide
· 3 min read · By Tripsiana Team

Kashmir is one of the few destinations in India that is genuinely worth visiting in every season. The best time to visit Kashmir depends entirely on what you want to see: tulips and apple blossom in spring, lush green meadows in summer, golden chinar trees in autumn, or thick snow and skiing in winter. Here is an honest, season-by-season breakdown so you can pick the right window.
Spring (March to May): Tulips and Blossom
This is the showpiece season. The famous Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden in Srinagar, the largest in Asia, usually blooms for two to three weeks from late March to mid April. Exact dates shift each year with the weather, so if tulips are your goal, keep your plan flexible and check bloom updates before locking flights.
Daytime temperatures sit at a pleasant 15 to 20°C, the Mughal gardens come alive, and the whole valley feels fresh after winter. Evenings are still cool, so carry a jacket.
Tip: The tulip window is short and crowded. Book Srinagar hotels three to four weeks ahead if you are travelling in early April.
Summer (June to August): Green Meadows
Summer is the most popular and most reliable season. Every meadow is at its greenest, all roads to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are open, and the weather is warm in the day and cool at night. This is the ideal time for families and first timers who want the classic circuit without any weather risk.
Daytime temperatures reach 25 to 30°C in Srinagar and stay cooler in the higher meadows. It is also peak season, so expect more crowds and book early.

Autumn (September to November): Golden Chinars
Autumn is the connoisseur's choice. The chinar trees across Srinagar turn fiery red and gold, the summer crowds thin out, and the light is soft and photogenic. The harvest season brings apples and walnuts, and the whole valley takes on warm amber tones.
Daytime temperatures cool to 12 to 20°C and nights get cold, especially by November. If you want beauty without the peak season rush, this is your window.
Winter (December to February): Snow and Skiing
Winter transforms Kashmir into a snow globe. Gulmarg becomes one of Asia's top ski destinations, with powder snow and the Gondola running up towards Apharwat Peak. Srinagar itself often gets a fresh blanket of snow, and a houseboat stay with the lake frozen at the edges is a magical, if chilly, experience.
Temperatures drop below freezing, so this season is for those who actively want snow. Pack serious woollens, and note that occasional snowfall can briefly affect flights and roads.
Quick Verdict
- For tulips and blossom: early April
- For green meadows and easy weather: June to August
- For autumn colour and fewer crowds: late September to October
- For snow and skiing: January to February
