Getting there & time needed

This is the biggest practical difference. Ladakh has an airport — you can fly Delhi–Leh in about 80 minutes and be at 3,500 m the same morning, which saves days but demands careful acclimatisation. Spiti has no airport; you reach it entirely by road, either gradually from Shimla (via Kinnaur — Narkanda, Reckong Peo, Nako, Tabo) or more steeply from Manali over the Kunzum Pass. Plan 7–9 days for Spiti and 6–8 for Ladakh. If your leave is tight and you want to fly in, Ladakh wins; if the journey itself is the point, Spiti is unmatched.

Spiti is rawer and more intimate. Altitude & difficulty

Spiti's Shimla approach climbs gradually, which actually helps your body adjust, but its roads are rougher and more remote.
